Favorite Christmas Gifts...

I know this is late, very late! But, I'm always curious to know what neat and/or educational toys are out there, that other kids are enjoying, so decided to share. And, I started this post awhile back and just didn't finish, until now! So, enjoy!

The girls received this dollhouse as their big Christmas gift. They have spent countless hours playing with it! Izzie has such a creative imagination and loves rearranging the furniture!

They each received a Baby Stella and accessories. Mac carries her Baby Boo with her everywhere...they are inseparable!

A few more of Mac's (23 months old) favorites...

Melissa and Doug doorbell house

Melissa and Doug Fish Color Puzzle

Izzie's (4 years old) favorites include:

This cute little picnic basket with tea set. I'm not sure the brand, as it was a gift, but here is a similar one.

She has spent hours playing this game!

I would love to know what some of your child(ren)'s favorite gifts were for Christmas!

ABC Soft & Nesting Blocks Review

When purchasing a new toy for my daughters, I generally try to answer three questions... is it safe and durable, is it developmentally age appropriate, and what is it's educational purpose?

These questions can be hard to answer. Thankfully, I've discovered a toy website called Ebeanstalk that is dedicated to selecting good, safe baby toys and toddler toys. Each toy has been selected by a team of specialists, which includes experts in clinical psychology, speech-language pathology, physical therapy, pediatric occupational therapy and education. The team reviewed over ten thousand toys before selecting the best developmental toys for children according to age. In addition, they have asked over 700 moms like me what they think of the toys too.

I was thrilled when they sent us a set of ABC Soft & Nesting Blocks, one of their many unique toys to review. The ABC Soft & Nesting Block set includes five soft quilted cotton blocks and a First ABC's book featuring adorable illustrations by Susan Winget. They are conveniently stored in a reusable package.

1. Are the blocks and book safe and durable?

Yes! I really appreciate that the quilted cotton blocks are made out of fabric that is safe for Mac to explore with her hands and mouth! It's a relief that the blocks are safe for washing too! The book is a board book, which means it can withstand a teething baby and daily readings.

2. Are the blocks and book developmentally age appropriate?

Yes! According to the team of experts at Ebeanstalk, the target age for the ABC Soft & Nesting Blocks is 9 months. Stacking blocks and especially knocking them over is very popular with Mac at this age. The blocks are sturdy enough for her to grab and try to stack up, but soft enough for her to explore with her mouth. The board book is the perfect size for her little hands to help turn the pages.

3. What is the educational purpose of the blocks and book?

The ABC Soft & Nesting Block set is a toy that can be used now and in the future. Currently, Mac is having a blast learning how to stack the blocks on top of one another, as well as, nesting the blocks inside of each other. These simple activities are helping her with her fine motor skills and teaching her object permanence and size relationships. The ABC book is a perfect way to introduce her to the alphabet and simple vocabulary words. The simple illustrations are the same in the book and on the blocks, which can be used for matching.

I would recommend The ABC Soft & Nesting Block set. The soft quilted blocks are perfect for stacking and nesting for little hands and the book is a great way to introduce the alphabet.

Super Stocking Stuffers: Boo Boo Cube Review and Giveaway!

Does your child have a boo boo, bump or bruise that needs some extra care? The Boo Boo Cube™ from Lil Boo & Co. is a great solution and would make a super stocking stuffer for your little one!

When Izzie gets a boo boo, she loves getting kisses and a bandage to make it feel better, but refuses to put an ice pack on her boo boo. She complains that the ice pack is too cold, even when I try to wrap it in a towel, which usually creates a chaotic mess. I am so excited that I discovered the adorable Boo Boo Cube™ from Lil Boo & Co. It is a great alternative to an ice pack because it's soft to touch, not too cold, and can even be used as a warm pack too! Izzie enjoys that it is "pretty" with the fabric design and is the perfect size for her small hands.

The creator of the Boo Boo Cube™ had this to say, "Place in the freezer for a safe, non-toxic cold pack and grab it anytime a boo boo happens (a nice alternative to the toxic gel packs...that often leak)! The Boo Boo Cube™ distributes the "cold" evenly without the burning sensation of a bare ice cube or the drippy mess of a cold rag. The Boo Boo Cube™ can also be placed in the microwave for 30 seconds for a soothing warm therapy bag for sore muscles, backaches or even headaches (I've even had some people tell me that they used them when they were breastfeeding for a clogged milk duct and soreness)! There's endless uses for the Boo Boo Cube™! When you're done with your Boo Boo Cube™, just toss it back in the freezer until the next time you need it."

The Boo Boo Cube™ measures approximately 5" x 5" and has a small ribbon "tag" for easy grabbing. It is made with cotton material and filled with only the best high quality rice, that can be frozen or heated in the microwave. Because the Boo Boo Cube™ is filled with rice, do not submerge it in water...the rice may spoil. Spot clean only. In addition, it has been carefully sewn for extra durability.

Lil Boo & Co. has agreed to giveaway a Boo Boo Cube™ to one lucky reader!

Super Stocking Stuffers: Gulf Coast Cottage Review and Giveaway!

Are you looking for a way to stock your child's play kitchen this Christmas? I was thrilled when I discovered Gulf Coast Cottage's adorable PDF patterns! Gulf Coast Cottage offers a variety of felt food patterns that are quick and simple to create, even for a beginner sewer.

I made the above items from the Felt Food Boxes and Canned Goods PDF Pattern. I'm extremely new to sewing, so this was a huge undertaking. I was a little scared to attempt the felt food after learning that the creator was a professional upholster and seamstress. But, all my fears quickly faded away when I received the PDF pattern. The directions were so clear and precise and I really liked that the patterns were of actual size. In addition, I really appreciate that on Gulf Coast Cottage's blog, she has kindly posted a tutorial about the blanket stitch, which was used when creating the above felt food. I am so excited with the way the felt food turned out and can't wait to make more!

The creator of Gulf Coast Cottage had this to say, "Two years ago for my Daughters birthday- I was looking for safe, imaginative, toys. It was really difficult to be sure the items I found in stores were REALLY safe. So- I commissioned my Father to build a kitchen set from solid wood- (immediately upon it's completion it was painted pink) and there began my obsession with felt. I had never really been a big fan of felt- (things certainly have changed) but it seemed to be a great medium to start with. Being a professional upholsterer and seamstress- it was a task that was new and exciting. And so, my designs of play food and toys have been coming ever since."

Gulf Coast Cottage has agreed to giveaway one PDF pattern to a lucky reader!
You have 10 chances to WIN:

Super Stocking Stuffers: Lou Bugs Boutique Review and Giveaway!

This time of the year, we spend more time in the car traveling. Thankfully, Izzie has a tendency to fall asleep on long drives. However, she also has the droopy head sleeping position, which looks and probably feels very uncomfortable.

I was so excited when I discovered the perfect solution for her droopy head sleeping position! It's a Car Seat Travel Pillow by Lou Bugs Boutique. A travel pillow would be a comfortable addition to your child's stocking!

Lou Bugs Boutique offers a variety of adorable designs for the Car Seat Travel Pillow. The travel pillows are made out of flannel fabric and are filled with 100 percent fiberfill, which makes them extremely soft and cozy! Each pillow is 9 inches wide and 7 inches long, the perfect size for an infant or toddler to use while riding in the car.

I'm thrilled with the way the travel pillow fits perfectly around Izzie's neck and how it prevents her neck from drooping to one side. The pillow can also be placed around the back of the neck. The Car Seat Travel Pillow by Lou Bugs Boutique is a must have for all children, who tend to fall asleep in the car!

*REPOST* Super Stocking Stuffers: Oh Baby! by Casie Review and Giveaway!

Do you have a little one who enjoys throwing their sippy cup or beloved toy onto a dirty floor? My nine month old has begun tossing everything over the side of her car seat, while we are in stores. When this happens, I cringe to think about the dirt and germs that are on the floor and now on my daughter's sippy cup or toy. I recently discovered a genius idea to keep my daughter's belongings inside her car seat and off the nasty floor...it's a Sippy Strap designed by Oh Baby! by Casie. A Sippy Strap would make a great stocking stuffer.

There are several adorable designs of Sippy Straps at Oh Baby! by Casie. Each Sippy Strap has an elastic non-slip end to put around a sippy cup or toy. The other end of the Sippy Strap can be placed around your child's wrist or attached to a car seat, stroller, highchair, or shopping cart.

"The owner of Oh Baby! by Casie had this to say, "I am a stay home mom to a wonderful little man named Jackson, who is now three. I have been a crafter most of my life, it's just in my blood. I love making gifts for family and friends and now I have found Etsy, which allows me to widen my circle of friends to craft for. I am always looking to find new products that will make life easier, in my searching I came across a leash for sippy cups/ bottles. I wish I could say I invented them, but sadly no. However, within 5 minutes of using the store bought version, my son had figured out how to open the Velcro closure. So, I can proudly say that I have RE-invented and perfected these. I use an elastic non-slip strap around the sippy cup/bottle, which requires a MUCH higher level of hand/eye coordination to dismantle. At 13 months my son could open the Velcro on theirs and at 3 years old he can't remove mine! They work great for most size bottles, sippy cups, and even stuffed toys/lovies to keep them off the germ filled floors and parking lots. Hope this RE-invention will help your life as much as it has helped mine!"

Mac tried out the new Sippy Strap, while at the grocery store. The elastic non-slip part of the Sippy Strap fits perfectly around her sippy cup and the opposite end of the Sippy Strap was secured on her wrist.

After finishing with her drink, Mac tries to toss her sippy cup onto the dirty grocery store floor. Thankfully, the Sippy Strap saves the sippy cup from falling onto the floor!

The Sippy Straps by Oh Baby! by Casie are a must-have to keep your child from tossing objects onto the floor.

Oh Baby! by Casie has agreed to giveaway one Sippy Strap to a lucky reader for your child's stocking!

You have 10 chances to WIN:

Super Stocking Stuffers: It's A Ten Review and Giveaway!

How many plastic baggies to you use each day? A lot? Unfortunately, I use way too many for my husband's lunch and daughter's snacks. I was looking for an Eco-friendly way to replace the use of small baggies, when I discovered these stylish and reusable Sak Saver Baggies by It's A Ten. These reusable baggies are the perfect solution and would make an excellent stocking stuffer for anyone in your family!

Tami, the owner of It's A Ten and creator of the Sak Saver Baggies, started making the reusable baggies a few months ago, when a friend asked her to make her a couple for her husband. Luckily, she had a large stash of designer fabrics available and many years of sewing experience. Tami made several Sak Saver Baggies and after rave reviews from other friends, she decided to start selling the reusable baggies in her etsy store.

There are several different sizes and fabric choices available for the Sak Saver Baggies.
Mini snack bag size: 4" x 7 1/2"
Sandwich bag size: 6" x 7 1/2"
Quart bag size: 8 1/2" x 7 1/2"

All of the Sak Saver Baggies are made of high quality cotton fabric on the outside and lined with 100% Nylon ripstop fabric on the inside. This fabric is water resistant, not waterproof. Therefore, the bags would not be suitable for extremely wet items but perfect for sandwiches, crackers, fruit or other "on the go" type of food. A Velcro closure lines the top of the bag to ensure your food stays put. Since its not an airtight seal, it is not recommend to store food overnight or for extended periods of time in the bags.

My daughter loves her Mini Snack Sak Saver Baggie, which she calls, her "snack purse". It is the perfect size for a preschooler. I love that it has a Velcro closure that is easy for her to open and close by herself. She has trouble closing a regular Ziploc baggie; therefore, she normally leaves a trail of goldfish, cheerios, or other snack around the house. However, she can easily close the Sak Saver Baggie! In addition, I appreciate that it is machine washable! To clean, you can simply either handwash or toss in the washing machine and air dry.

Tami had this to say, "Being a stay at home mom with 2 kids who are not in school yet, I find that sewing is something that I can do with my girls playing in the next room or after they've gone to bed for the night. Plus they are both becoming very interested in sewing. My 4 year old already wants a sewing machine like mommy's for "my 5 birthday"...those are her words! Its exciting to be making (and using myself) something that is good for the environment. Prior to using my bags, I would use at least 3-4 plastic bags a day because each of my girls wanted their "own" snack bag. I can honestly say that I know I haven't used near as many plastic Ziploc bags since I've started making my Sak Saver Baggies!! (Note: I still use plastic ziploc bags for overnight storage in the refrigerator or freezer)"

It's A Ten is giving away one Mini Snack Sak Saver Baggie to one lucky reader! These bags are a Mommy must-have and would make a perfect stocking stuffer for everyone on your shopping list!

You have 10 chances to WIN:
(Please leave a separate comment for each entry)

Super Stocking Stuffers: Baby Loves Blankies Review and Giveaway!

Have you ever been traveling in the car or waiting in a long grocery line, at the pediatrician's office, or in a restaurant wishing you could pull something magical out of your purse that would keep your child entertained the entire time? I spy a super stocking stuffer...it's an I Spy Bag from Baby Loves Blankies!

I Spy Bags are a fun and educational way to help your child pass the time away, without making a mess or too much noise.

Baby Loves Blankies offers two sizes of I Spy Bags. The large I Spy Bags are approximately 7" x 7" and are filled with over 40 fun treasures, while the Itsy Bitsy I Spy Bags are approximately 5" x 5" and are filled with over 20 fun treasures for your child to find. There is a detachable laminated card that lists the treasures.

In addition, Jaime, the owner of Baby Loves Blankies, will include the letters of your child's name in the I Spy Bag for free!

The I Spy Bags are made with Snuggly Flannel fabric because it shows less signs of wear and tear than fleece fabric. All of the seams on the I Spy Bags are double sewn for your child's safety; however, each bag is filled with poly pellets and tiny treasures that can be a choking hazard. All of the treasures, fabric and vinyl were purchased in the USA and are compliant with the current CPSIA laws.

My daughter is having so much fun sifting through the bag, looking through the window, and finding the hidden treasures, especially the letters of her name!

Jamie, the owner of Baby Loves Blankies, is the mother of three boys and a wife to a recently deployed military serviceman. She had this to say, "I was always into crafts. I made several blankies for my friends and my own kids. I was looking for something more fun to create. One day in late 2007, I was looking through a flyer with toys for autistic children and I saw a cloth disk with 5 trinkets inside. I thought to myself that I could make something like this for my boys. I went through trails and errors with them. My kids were my testers. I opened my Etsy shop in 2008 and my I spy Bags were a hit! My youngest son was recently diagnosed with a mild form of Autism, he is only 2 so I am still hoping that he will catch up. It was almost like I was making these all along for him. He really enjoys them and they really calm him down."

Baby Loves Blankies I Spy Bags would be a fun and engaging addition to your child's stocking this year! There are so many adorable designs to choose from to keep your child happy and entertained.

Super Stocking Stuffers: Gaddy Nipper Crayons

Coloring has just become more exciting! Gaddy Nipper Crayons are a must have for this holiday season and would be a perfect stocking stuffer for your child.

Each year, millions of petroleum based (non-biodegradable) crayons are thrown away. I love the idea of recycling these old crayons and making creative new crayons! Gaddy Nipper Crayons has created a variety of recycled crayons that are hand poured, non-toxic, and custom made to order. In addition, any set of crayons can be personalized free of charge.

The creator of Gaddy Nipper Crayons had this to say, "I started Gaddy Nipper Crayons when my son wanted Thomas crayons for his birthday. I couldn't find them anywhere so, I got creative and hadn't stopped since. I absolutely love the smell of crayons and just creating fun and enjoyable products for kids. I love to see the smile on a child's face when they open my crayons."

And there was a huge smile on my daughter's face when she saw Suzie and her snow women friends bundled up in a cute decorative bag!

Suzie and her friends are a new line of Gaddy Nipper Crayons for this holiday season. They love to spend the cold winter days coloring away in coloring books. Suzie comes in 5 basic colors, but is known to show up in unique colors on rare occasions. Suzie and her friends come packaged in a set of five, but can also be packaged individually for party or giveaway needs.

Gaddy Nipper Crayons are perfect for little hands. My daughter prefers chunky crayons and ones without the surrounding paper wrapper, so Gaddy Nipper Crayons were a hit with her! My daughter is a rough artist and most crayons break while she is coloring; however, the Gaddy Nipper Crayons are ready for more masterpieces.

Gaddy Nipper Crayons would be a fun and creative addition to your child's stocking this year! There are so many adorable designs to choose from and each will encourage your child's imagination.

Be sure to check out Gaddy Nipper Crayons blog for new crayon designs and fun crayon facts!
