Throwback Thursday...Apple Crafts!

Last year, the girls worked on a Bible Timeline notebook.  They created these apple crafts while learning about Adam and Eve.

They started out with a painted canvas.  I learned this blending shade technique when my husband and I attended a date night at our local art gallery!

I found an apple template that I liked and traced it onto the canvas.

Then, using Tacky Glue, the girls outlined the apple with ribbon.

On to the decorating with buttons and glitter!

They topped the apples off with some leftover Christmas decorations.

I love the way each apple turned out!

In addition, they completed an apple tree page for their Bible Timeline notebook, using pencil erasers and a red stamp pad to make the apples.

Lastly, they made a paper collage apple for their Bible Timeline notebook.

Garden of Eden: Adam

After completing the activities for the seven days of creation for their Bible Timeline Notebook, the girls spent some time reviewing the seven continents by learning the names and location of each.

They enjoyed working various world puzzles too.

Well, Izzie enjoyed working the puzzles, while Mac enjoyed being silly!

We discussed that multiple countries make up a continent and that we live in the country of the United States of America on the continent of North America.

Afterward, the girls learned that God made a very special place called the Garden of Eden, where He placed the first man, Adam.   Izzie colored the continents surrounding the Garden of Eden and we discussed that many believe that it was located somewhere in present-day Iraq between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

I couldn't find a coloring picture of just Adam in the Garden of Eden, so the girls colored and pasted animals around Adam, while covering up Eve.

We took some time to discuss how it was Adam's responsibility to take care of the Garden of Eden.  The girls each created their own chore chart to help take care of their home too.

Izzie's chores include:
  • Helping with breakfast each morning.
  • Unloading the dishwasher after breakfast.
  • Making her bed.
  • Helping with lunch.
  • Wiping down the table after lunch.
  • Setting the table for dinner.
  • Taking the dishes to the sink after dinner.
  • Wiping down the bathroom sink after brushing teeth before bedtime.

God Created Me Crafts!

Here's a peak of a couple of crafts the girls completed for their Bible Timeline Notebook

Handprint world craft using a coffee filter and tempera paint diluted with water.

We allowed the art to dry over night before gluing onto the notebooking page.

I liked the above craft so much that I wanted another version of it to keep out and display.  So, here's what we came up with...

God Made Me!

After reviewing the days of creation, we took some time to praise God!  We spoke about how God created everyone to be beautifully and uniquely different.  It is truly amazing to think that each one of us is a masterpiece...there is no other person who is exactly like you!

As parents, one of our greatest responsibilities is to create a family environment where our children can feel good about themselves.

After reading this article, I actually wrote this down...

It is within the family that a girl first develops a sense of who she is and who she wants to become.  Parents armed with knowledge can create a psychological climate that will enable each girl to achieve her full potential. Parents can help their daughters avoid developing, or overcome, negative feelings about themselves and grow into strong, self-confident women.

As girls grow and develop, their overall sense of self-esteem and personal worth grows and changes, too.

As a parent of two daughters and a wife of a high school counselor, I can see the great importance of developing good self-esteem traits in young children, both girls and boys.

To praise their unique characteristics, the girls and I read the following books:

In addition, the girls created a self-portrait.

I wanted their self-portraits to be a constant reminder of how God created each of them as his beautiful and unique masterpiece.  I framed the portraits and hung them in their bathroom.

I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way.  What you have done is wonderful.  I know this very well.

Day 7: Creation

We are working very slowly on the Bible Timeline Notebook.  Earlier this year, it was my plan to complete Mystery of History: Volume I.  However, that's not going to happen.   After flipping through the Verita Press catalog, I'm rethinking our long term schedule and will probably re-start and finish Mystery of History when Izzie is in second grade.  But, for now...I'll keep sharing what we have already completed before I changed my mind!

Day 7

We admired God's world by learning the names and location of each continent.

In addition, we started another visual timeline.
