Preschool: Letter L and Shapes

This week, Izzie has been learning about the letter "L", number "2", sight word "see", and shapes! Her Bible Verse for the unit is from Raising Rock Stars (Letter L).

Writing and Phonics...with crafts too!

She is becoming so focused on her "school work" and really enjoys writing! Here she is practicing writing the letter L on her dry-erase board (4 pack/$1 at Target).

We had a fun time picking out books this week for the Letter L. We read several books about llamas and completed a capital L llama craft (more pictures here).

And, for her stART project, she created a lion made from circles!

This week for Math, Izzie focused on writing the number 2, skip counting by 2's, and reviewing shapes.

She learned to skip count by 2's! Printable handout here.

She completed a lot of math workbook sheets this week and LOVED it!!

One of her favorite activities was completing this wipe-off shapes activity book. I appreciate these types of books...she can do the pages over and over again!!

I printed off a traceable shapes page and slid it into a page protector to help her draw the shapes. She's really good at drawing circles and squares by herself.

Sorting Shapes

Quick and simple way to review shapes...

I found these little white bags at Michael's, then simply drew the desired shapes on the front.
I gave Izzie a handful of foam shapes and she went to town!

I am excited to find more uses for the bags...colors, numbers, oh...the list can go on forever!

stART: If I Were A Lion

Izzie is studying the letter "L" this week. So, for her stART project, we read, If I Were A Lion. It's a cute book about a little girl who has to sit in time-out. While there, she let's her imagination run wild...pretending to be different animals.

Izzie really wanted to use scissors for her craft....

Ummm...as you can see, she's still having a difficult time cutting. However, she really likes using scissors! I did find these Maped Koopy scissors with a spring that are super easy to manipulate....but, she still needs some more practice.

So, while she was punching out the little circles, I quickly cut out a non-destroyed circle before she noticed.

On to gluing the mane...then, adding face features...

The completed lion....GRRRRR!!!!

Letter "L" Crafts

This week, Izzie is reviewing shapes and working on the letter "L".

We had a blast reading books about llamas! We read an old favorite, Is Your Mama A Llama?, which Izzie really enjoys! She loves guessing the mama for each animal after listening to the clues. We found two more books about llamas, Llama llama Mad At Mama and Llama llama Misses Mama. Both are super cute rhyming books and have become bedtime favorites this week.

Oops! This is what happens when a newly turned 4-year old is given the entire tube of glitter, while, Mommy is hoping to get a great action shot!

What's On The Shelf? Shapes!

This week's shelf theme is all about shapes!

Izzie is 48 months old. Her shelf activities...

Melissa and Doug shape sorter. For now, I'm only having her "name" the common shapes...square, circle, rectangle, triangle, star, and oval.

I'm not sure the brand of this pegboard (yard sale find for $1).

Instead of making the shapes, Izzie preferred to make patterns with the pegs. Notice her tap shoes? She started tap lessons on Saturday and hasn't taken off her tap shoes!

After our trip to Target, her tap shoes were replaced by her new Dora flotation suit!

Once Izzie completes the puzzle, she hands it over to Mac, who removes the puzzle pieces and places them back into the basket...teamwork!

Stacking Blocks and Stacking Cups

Sorting squares by color. I found these little squares at Target (50 for $1) in the dollar aisle. I simply taped color squares to the tray and showed her how to match the colors.

She was more interested in stacking the blocks and then knocking them down!

Fisher Price Shape Sorter

I like removing the top from the bottom, so the shapes do not fall through. It helps her see what shapes have been used and what slots are still available.
